Registration from 1 march
The next edition of L'Eroica, the hugely popular vintage cycling event that takes place on the white gravel roads of the province of Siena, will take place on Sunday, 7 October. The starting line will, as always, be in Gaiole in Chianti, the ideal place to live according to an article published in Forbes magazine in 2009. As always, there is a choice of four routes, respectively 38, 75, 135 and 205 km, the most difficult and ambitious of the four. Riders in the two longer routes will set out between 5:00 and 7:00am while the starting time for the shorter routes will be between 8.30 and 10:00am.
Registration will open on Thursday, 1 March on the website www.eroica-ciclismo.it; up to 2,200 Italians and 800 non-nationals, aged between 15 and 60 years will be able to register. There is no limit on the number of over-60s, both Italian and non, and registration will remain open for them until 3 August.
Registration costs €35.00. For latecomers, it will be possible to register on two separate dates (in May and August) and the additional charge will be given to charity.
Participation in L'Eroica is strictly limited to vintage bikes, that is bikes with the gear shift levers on the frame down tube, external brake wires and toe straps on pedals. These bicycles must have been built before 1987.
An important innovation this year; all those who complete the 205 km route will receive a €10 discount on the cost of registration for the L'Eroica Running marathon and ultra-marathon to be held on Sunday, 4 November. Special prizes will be awarded to those who manage to complete both L' Eroica and L'Eroica Running.
